Why is there no internet connection after I installed MoCA devices?
Note: Losing your Internet connection can be caused by a number of different things.
- Check the version of MoCA on your existing router, modem, or MoCA technology. When you mix different versions of MoCA technology, the MoCA devices will have to work together.
- If your existing router, modem, or other network gear already has MoCA built in, you will need to confirm that the default settings of the ECBs work with the default settings of your existing router, modem, or other network gear with that manufacturer.
- Having too much noise or other interference on the coax lines themselves can also cause this issue.
- This can also be caused by the MoCA Technology itself and your cable service interfering with each other.
- If you currently have cable TV or internet services, your service provider may be able to help with this, by coming out to your home and testing your lines. The ECBS must be connected and powered on during these tests. They may charge you.
- The MoCA technology will NOT work alongside Satellite services.
- This is caused by not using a PoE (Point of Entry) filter
- These are usually installed by your ISP(Internet Service Provider). If not, you will need to purchase one.
- These can be purchased on Amazon or from other online stores. The only requirements here are that they are rated to work with cable TV services.
- If you're not using a PoE filter and your coax line is connected to a neighbor, somehow their service may interfere with your connection. We see this a lot in apartments, condos, and townhomes where homes are close to each other.
- Failing or bad amplifiers for your cable service.
-
- If you currently have cable TV or internet services, your service provider may be able to help with this. They may charge you.
-
- Bad coax connectors
- You will need to find a way to have the wiring in your home tested. This is a simple process, but it will require specialized tools and may require some research on your part. If you currently have cable TV or internet services, your service provider may be able to help with this. They may charge you.
- This can also be caused by the MoCA Technology itself and your cable service interfering with each other.
- Not having the most current firmware on your MoCA device.
- Look up your device on our site Screenbeam.com, go to the firmware section, and make sure you have the latest firmware for your device.
- Sometimes these devices sit in a warehouse for a long time, and stock is not rotated properly, so just because it's sold to you as new doesn't mean it has the latest firmware. In the picture below of an FCC sticker on the bottom of each of our devices, you will see the firmware is highlighted as the "F/W" number.
- Some will also have a hardware number, which is indicated by the "H/W" number.

When mixing different versions of MoCA Technology or different MoCA model numbers, they will all slow down to the slowest version of MoCA Technology to communicate with each other.
