Why are there ports 0 and 1 Ethernet status when there is only 1 Ethernet port?

In the GUI of ECB6200, ECB6250, and ECB7250, you will see different stats, the “Ethernet Link Status”,  “Ethernet Link Speed”, and " Ethernet Link Duplex”, for two different Ethernet ports (Port 0 and Port 1) on the ECB devices. Even though these devices only have one physical Ethernet port. When troubleshooting your device, the only one that matters is port 1. Port 1 will indicate the actual status, negotiated speed, and duplex of the Ethernet port to which you connect your cable.

Device status page

Here is what each status means to you. If Ethernet Link Status shows:

  • Port 1: Up, it means it's connected, and everything is working as expected.

  • Port 1: Down, it means it's not connected to any device at this time.  You will not see this status because if the Ethernet port is not working, you can't access the device, and you will not be able to see this status page.

  • Port 0: Not in Use at this time

Here is what each status means to you. If Ethernet Link Speed shows:

  • Port 1: 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, other. This status tells you the speed at which the ECB has connected to its one and only Ethernet port.

  • Port 0: Not in Use at this time, you can ignore these values at this time

This is just the Ethernet speed, not the MoCA speed that is indicated on the same Device status page under “My MoCA version” and “Network MoCA version”. My MoCA version is the MoCA version of the ECB itself.  Network MoCA version is the version of MoCA that it is currently operating at to be compatible with all MoCA devices currently connected. Because remember, MoCA must always work at the speed of the slowest MoCA device on the MoCA network. I might make this an FAQ in the future

Example:

  • ECB7250 and ECB7250 = MoCA 2.5 speeds and connected possible Ethernet speeds of 2.5Gbps

  • ECB7250 and ECB6250 = MoCA 2.5 speeds and connected possible Ethernet speeds of 1Gbps

  • ECB6200 and ECB7250 or ECB6250 = MoCA 2.0 speeds and connected possible Ethernet speeds of 1Gbps

  • ECB6200 and ECB6200 = MoCA 2.0 speeds and connected possible Ethernet speeds of 1Gbps

  • ECB7250 and Xfinity XB8 = MoCA 2.0 speeds and connected possible Ethernet speeds of 2.5Gbps
