Why am I getting an invalid IP address error on my device?

This can be caused by several different reasons. here are some steps to troubleshoot this issue.

ScreenBeam MoCA adapters are Layer 2 bridging devices and do NOT assign IP addresses. The error typically stems from your router or client device. Follow these steps to troubleshoot:

  1. Verify IP Assignment Source
    1. MoCA adapters merely extend the network over coax cables.
    2. IP addresses must come from your router’s DHCP server (or a manual static configuration).
  2. Basic Checks
    1. Restart your device: Forces a new DHCP request to the router.
    2. Ethernet connections:
      1. Ensure cables are fully seated at both ends (MoCA adapter and client device).
      2. Try a different cable if link lights are off (see LED Status below).
  3. Client Device Configuration
    1. DHCP must be enabled on your device (computer/game console/TV).
    2. How to check: Refer to your device manufacturer’s guide.
    3. Static IP users: Ensure the IP is within your router’s subnet (e.g., 192.168.1.x for a router at 192.168.1.1).
  4. MoCA Adapter Status
    1. Ethernet LED: Should glow/flash when connected. No light indicates a physical layer issue (cable/adapter/port fault).
    2. Coax/MoCA LED: Must be solid green for MoCA connectivity. If off, troubleshoot coax wiring.
  5. Advanced: Managing Multiple ECBs
    1. Factory-default static IP (192.168.144.200) is only for web GUI access, not network operation.
    2. To avoid conflicts:
    3. Set adapters to DHCP (recommended), or
    4. Manually assign unique static IPs outside your router’s DHCP range.
