How do I change my IP Address?

First off,  why do you need to change your IP address?

Sometimes you need to set what is called a static IP address on your device to access the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of our devices to change specific settings before you use them. You may want to change some of the default settings to match your existing network. For most people, there is no need to change their IP address. This article will help you understand what to do just in case you want to and don't know how to do it. Of course, our technical support team can help you do this, but sometimes you may want to do it on your own, and we are only available during certain times of the day.

First the warnings

Doing this will cause your computer to lose internet access. But not to worry we will give you step-by-step instructions on how to temporarily change it to make your changes to our device and how to change it back when you are done.

Connect your computer directly to our device. Do not have our device connected to anything else other than power. Not even another one of our devices.

Please read all the instructions before attempting to do this.

  9. You will be looking for the Ethernet connection without the red "X", because this will indicate to you that this is the Ethernet connection that you currently have your ECB connected to with an Ethernet cable. If your ECB is not connected at this time, please do so.
    1. Note: If nothing or no Ethernet connections are showing on this page , then you need to contact your PC manufacturer for help with this issue, as it is a problem with your computer, not with the ECB.
  10. Now, "right-click" on the connection you are trying to change.
  11. Select "Properties" you should see the screen below. Screenshot 2025-07-29 092318

  13. Select "Use the following IP Address" and set the IP address and default gateway to the desired settings.  Setting a-e below are the good for most of the current ECBs. If there exsisting settings in any of these boxes please write them down so you can set them back when you are done.  Screenshot 2025-07-29 093415
    1. Note: This will depend on which device of ours you are trying to access. For example, if you were trying to configure the ECB7250, you would set the IP address to 192.168.144.5.
    2. Once you set the static IP addres,s the subnet mask fills in automatically to 255.255.255.0
    3. You would also need to set the default gateway to 192.168.144.1
    4. Leave the preferred DNS settings as they are.
    5. WARNING: If it is already set to "Use the following IP address," write down these settings as you will need them when you are done.
  14. Click "OK"
  15. Click "OK" again
  16. You have now set a static IP address on your Windows-based computer Ethernet card and can now access the GUI of our device. By using its default IP address.

    Once you are done

    1. Start at step 1 from above, and when you get to step 13 set it back to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" and "Obtain DNS Server address automatically" or the previous setting that you wrote down.
    2. Click "OK"
    3. Click "OK" again.
    4. Connect your computer back to your router so it can once again have internet access.
